Governers Camp Facilities
1. Governors Camp - the original camp. 2. Little Governors Camp - intimate & secluded. 3. Mfangano Island Camp - Beauty & quiet. 4. Loldia House - Peace & calm. Some of the 38 tents line the riverbank, with uninterrupted views over the Mara River; others have views across the sweeping plains. Created in 1972 Governors’ Camp set new standards in luxury for a tented camp. Today it’s still Africa’s best. Everything is under canvas, all tents have en-suit bathrooms with hot and cold running water and flushing toilets. Each morning a breakfast feast is prepared over blazing coals: mountains of bacon, eggs the way you like them, fresh milk flown-in daily, hot-baked croissants, exotic fruits, and freshly-brewed Kenya coffee. Lunch, like breakfast is a buffet, this time roast meats hot and cold, fresh salads and delicious desserts. Both meals are served on the shady riverbank with views across the Mara’s plains.
Governers Camp Additional Information
Our four-wheel-drive vehicles are built to our own specifications. Cut-away roofs give you better views. Our professional drivers will astonish you with what they find: a tell-tale vulture will lead them to a hyena kill, a warning cry from a mother wildebeest reveals a leopard stalking through the grass. For the experience of a lifetime, drift the dawn over the magnificent plains of the Masai Mara in a Hot Air Balloon. Once arriving at the landing sight, feast on a champagne breakfast, before returning to camp. Alternatively, leave your vehicle behind and take a walking safari with one of our armed-guides for the true thrill of the bush, down on the same level as the animals you’ll experience the untamed beauty of the Mara.

Kichwa Tembo Bateleur Camp Attractions
The unfenced Masai Mara covers 1 500km² and, together with the neighboring Serengeti (combined, they form one ecosystem), is home to the greatest concentration of large mammals on earth. The great migration of over two million wildebeest and other grazing ungulates every year is the Mara's foremost attraction and one of the greatest spectacles in the animal kingdom. Each year, far south in the vast Serengeti, the wildebeest raise their heads, sniff the air, and as if of one accord, start the long trek to the Kenyan border. An endless thunder of wildebeest and zebra enter the Mara around the end of July, drawn by the sweet grass. Add to this the richness of fauna, profusion of winged beauty and untouched landscape, and you have magical Masai Mara.
Kichwa Tembo Bateleur Camp Facilities
Nine spacious tents with wooden floors and private verandahs grace this exclusive camp. Inside each tent, you will find every possible comfort, including an unexpectedly expansive en-suite bathroom. There is also a writing desk, subtle lighting and ceiling fans in each tent. The ultimate indulgence - a personal butler service - ensures you are pampered in style. The nine tented rooms reflect classic luxury. The tents feature safari architecture of sweeping canvas, traditional shingle and highly polished hardwood. Underfoot lie fine needlepoint rugs. The secluded, comfortable interiors of the camp are enhanced by fine antiques, leather- buttoned Chesterfield sofas, keepsakes of distant days such as polished compasses and cabin trunks with their original passage labels, as well as a wide selection of library books. The interiors transport you to the heyday of colonial safaris, to an epoch of romance, canvas and candlelight. The main guest area, which is shaded by a dense forest canopy, has a reception area and a comfortable lounge with a fireplace. While you are relaxing inside the camp, you can take in endless, game-filled plains with the dramatic Oloololo Escarpment as a backdrop. The tree-shaded lap pool, almost 13 metres long, is a refreshing feature. The camp has a small curio shop, and you are welcome to visit the larger shop at Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp. The dining area and verandah have views of the endless game-filled plains of the Mara. Pan-African cuisine is served with flair. After dinner, enjoy a glass of port in front of the fire.
